Hello, I’m Claire. You may have seen me sharing my excitement about children’s books over on Instagram during the last six months. If so, thanks for following along and welcome to the new venture- a blog! I have procrastinated long and hard about this but with a few gentle nudges in the right direction here I am and I’m very excited to enter this brave new world.
I haven’t shared a lot about me over on instagram so here’s a little more about how I came to have a book obsession. Like many bookish children, I spent a lot of time at the library when I was younger and always had at least one book on the go. A couple of my friends were also big readers so we used to share and swap books, the usual girly things like The Babysitter’s Club and Nancy Drew or Choose your own Adventure but I suppose the point is I never grew out of it or stopped reading. Even in my most sleep deprived states when I had a young baby keeping me up at night, I always had to read a couple of pages of something before I went to sleep at night.
When I went to university to train to be a teacher my main subject was English and one of the tutors there encouraged us to keep on top of current children’s literature so I began rereading things I read as a child which lead me onto newer authors and publications. And once I was in class I would desperately search for anything that would help the children in my class fall in love with reading the way I had and so my collection grew. And grew. And grew.
Fast forward a few years and here I am, still teaching and now with a little one of my own. My book habit has continued to grow. I have long passed the stage where they could be kept on shelves and many now occupy the ‘book wardrobe’ in my spare room, as well as having designated spaces in many of the rooms in my house. With all these beautiful books filling my mind (and my house) it seems only fair I share them with you and hopefully help you to find a treasure to add to your own collection or a perfect book which will capture the imagination of one of the little people in your life.
So, if you’ve read this far- thank you! I would love it if you would leave a comment to help me get to know you a little better or even just say ‘Hi!’ and let’s explore the amazing world of children’s books together.
I have a little book habit. Let me share it with you…
Hi! I’m Magdalena and just read your post in Instagram. I liked your story and I would love to visit your house and see all those books!
I live in Uruguay, I’m a librarian and I love picture books. I’m starting to build my collection only now that I have a daughter. I will be visiting often. Good luck!

Hi Magdalena, thanks for reading and for leaving a comment. We love our library and I’ve always liked the idea of being a librarian. Do you love it? Your little girl is so lucky that you are building a book collection for her. What are your current favourites? So glad you enjoyed the post, thanks again. I love that my first comment comes from the other side of the world. Hooray for the internet!

Your blog is a lovely idea. Like you I’m a big fan of children’s books. At university in the 90s I did quite a few children’s literature courses as part of my degree, then went on to work for Waterstones for a few years (ran a children’s department). Now I sell toys (and just the odd book… Sometimes, when I’ve assembled a few, I have a little vintage department on the website with Little Grey Rabbit and Ladybird books) So I shall read your blog with interest š Charlotte x

Hi Charlotte, it’s always nice to find another children’s book fan. Running the children’s department in a book shop sounds like a dream (although I’m sure the reality was hard work). How did you ever make it out with any wages?! I’ll have to take a look at your website, especially when you’re having one of your book sales. Thanks for stopping by!
